Project Goal

After Carb Manager’s extensive two-year visual redesign of their iOS and Android apps, my goal was to bring that same design consistency to the web. This redesign also allowed me to introduce new features, including a comprehensive food and recipe directory, a fully functional blog, and a lightweight macro tracker on the front end.

User Goal

Carb Manager provides a range of valuable dieting tools beyond just keto support. My main objective was to make these features more visible and clearly communicate their benefits to potential users. I also focused on building trust with a modern, clean design to elevate the site’s overall credibility.

Business Goal

Our aim was to boost web search visibility through improved SEO, with new features like the food and recipe directory and custom blog pages. These additions also opened up new monetization channels, reducing reliance on AdSense alone.

Interpreting the Sitemap

To get a complete view of the website and spot areas for improvement, I created an Information Architecture (IA) map. This analysis revealed gaps in some sections that left users unclear about the product and its benefits. To address this, I optimized navigation and search functions to help users easily find recipes and relevant articles, making information about the product’s benefits more accessible. I also refined the overall messaging to clearly convey the product’s value.

Optimizing & Adding Value

Understanding the Information Architecture (IA) allowed me to make key improvements across Carb Manager’s site. We revamped the features page and reorganized the recipe collection into intuitive culinary categories. At the same time, we enhanced navigation and search in the articles section, making valuable content more accessible. This holistic approach streamlined content access and improved the user experience, leading to a notable increase in premium subscription conversions.

Improving Brand Approachability

To align with the founder’s goal of making the brand more approachable, I proposed creating an avocado mascot. The idea resonated with the founder and quickly gained popularity within the team. Initially featured on the website, the mascot was later integrated into the mobile app, adding fun and personality. We also created several variations for versatile use, enhancing the user experience. This initiative successfully brought the founder’s vision to life, making the brand more enjoyable, relatable, and engaging for users.
